Hopefully, since you're running a Hackintosh, you will already know the model of your processor and how much RAM your computer has. Additionally, you will need about 10 GB of extra hard drive space, since virtual machines need their own virtual hard drives. When you run a virtual machine, your computer is running two operating systems at once, which takes up twice as much RAM and processing power as usual. If your Hackintosh (or real Mac) runs Mac OS X Snow Leopard, VMWare Fusion will not support Mac OS X virtual machines.Īlso, you should have at least 4 GB of RAM (preferably more) and a dual-core processor. If you're running a copy of Lion, VMWare Fusion 4 now has support for Mac OS X built-in, allowing you to create a virtual machine from a retail copy of Lion, with full sound, ethernet, and even graphics support.īefore we get started, it's important to note that this method only works for Mac OS X Lion. Fortunately, this all changed with the release of Mac OS X Lion. Since Mac OS X has always been a locked-down operating system (hence the need for Hackintoshing), virtual machine software has never been able to provide full support for it. ![]() Read past the break for an example of running Mac OS X on VMWare, as well as a tutorial on how to do it yourself in Mac OS X Lion. For those of you who don't know, a virtual machine is basically a virtual computer that allows you to run a second operating system in a program window on your actual computer. Until then, you can play with this new capability if you are running Mac OS X 10.11 or greater on VMware.Have you ever thought about running Mac OS X in a virtual machine? If I do receive any more details on this, I will update the article. In addition to having an optimized networking when using the VMXNET3 driver, the other benefit is being able to get a link speed of 10GbE which is something customers have been inquiring about when virtualizing Mac OS X guests. Below is a screenshot of the system info showing the VMXNET3 network adapter. Once the driver has been loaded, you should now have networking connectivity to your Mac OS X VM using the VMXNET3 network adapter. Step 3 - You can verify that the VMXNET3 driver was successfully loaded by running the following command: Sudo kextload /System/Library/Extensions/IONetworkingFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleVmxnet3Ethernet.kext Step 2 - Open a terminal inside of the Mac OS X guest and run the following command to load the VMXNET3 driver: Once you have added it to the VM reconfigure wizard, go ahead and toggle back the GuestOS type to Mac OS X 10.10 and then save the settings as shown in the screenshots below. Tiny Thief, like Icebreaker before it, is beautiful and distinctive to look at. If we could name two defining aspects of a Rovio Stars game this early on, it would have to be polish and character. Still, the sheer inventiveness of the scenarios and the gentle humour woven through each of Tiny Thief's levels keeps you progressing and, yes, enjoying yourself - even when the gameplay is occasionally only a notch or two above those interactive kiddy books that are in abundance on the App Store. There are additional incentives in the form of optional extras you can collect - as well as an ongoing Where's Wally?-type game with your little pet - but, again, the solutions to these vary between the obvious and the downright obtuse. We didn't find ourselves inclined to use it until the end of the third world, but it still seems like a pretty obvious shortcoming. This isn't helped by a hint system that can only be activated every four hours. The worst make little sense, and rely on trial-and-error and aimless wandering and tapping to see where our hero can affect the world. The best levels are imaginative yet logical. Stray near an object that can be used or picked up and a tappable command prompt will pop up. Puzzles are solved in a linear fashion by collecting, using, and interacting with objects in a set order. The idea is to guide a light-fingered youth around a series of simple medieval environments, pinching from mean-spirited authority figures and helping out the disadvantaged like some pint-sized Robin Hood. ![]() Tiny Thief plays like a point-and-click adventure game shrunk down and separated into standalone bite-sized challenges. Perhaps unsurprisingly, Tiny Thief doesn't manage to scale those same heights - but it's also sufficiently fresh to warrant a closer look. We recently saw the very first Rovio Stars offering, Icebreaker: A Viking Voyage, which wowed us all with its supremely well-balanced brand of physics-based puzzling. The Rovio Stars publishing initiative is only one game old as Tiny Thief comes to market, but 5 Ants's game already has a formidable challenge living up to the label's high standards. ![]() While it's not all that surprising to note the absence of the typical reservation stereotypes found in many movies - the poor, drunken and often gambling addicted Indians, etc. What's most refreshing to see, though, is the even-keeled presentation that Eyre has delivered. As directed by Chris Eyre and written by Sherman Alexie (both American Indians), however, this is as much a tale about father/son relationships as it is about growing up as an American Indian on a reservation. Thus, it's nice to see a film made by, and headlined by a predominantly Native American cast and crew. The films in which they appeared, however, were still headlined by "white" stars such as Kevin Costner in "Dances With Wolves," Dustin Hoffman in "Little Big Man," and more recently, Val Kilmer in "Thunderheart." ![]() Mainly relegated to playing the dangerous savage in scores of "Cowboy and Indian" films throughout the decades, some decent supporting roles have occasionally arisen in more recent years. OUR TAKE: 7 out of 10 American Indian performers have never received many decent chances at starring in compelling roles or headlining Hollywood produced films. IRENE BEDARD plays a caring woman who wants to help Victor better understand his father.GARY FARMER plays Victor's hard drinking and occasionally abusive father who one day simply left his family forever.EVAN ADAMS plays a somewhat goofy, but intelligent young man with a happy disposition and a penchant for storytelling in the tradition of his ancestors.ADAM BEACH plays an angry and bitter young man whose attitude has been shaped by his father's long-term absence and the fact that he's a native American Indian and must deal with a society he believes doesn't understand or trust him.WHY THE MPAA RATED IT: PG-13 For some intense images. WILL KIDS WANT TO SEE IT? Unless they're native American Indians or are interested in that culture and its people, this probably won't be high on most kids' "must see" list. Her insight, however, eventually helps Victor come to grips with his own life. That's further complicated when he meets Suzy Song (IRENE BEDARD), a woman who was truly the last to know Arnold and the truth behind Victor's past. Reliving memories of when he and young Thomas (SIMON BAKER) were just boys, Victor doesn't know how to sort out his new, but confused familial feelings. With Victor having become a bitter young man, and Thomas being a somewhat goofy oddball, their several day long trip tests their already strained friendship. Needing money to travel to Phoenix to pick up the cremated ashes, Victor reluctantly allows Thomas to pay for the bus fare. Now, Victor and his mother have received news that Arnold has died. Never quite the same afterwards, Arnold took to drinking hard, and ten occasionally abusive years later, he forever left Victor (CODY LIGHTNING) and his wife, Arlene (TANTOO CARDINAL), on their Idaho reservation. It was then that a sudden fire killed Thomas' parents, with Victor's father, Arnold (GARY FARMER), saving their infant son's life. ![]() PLOT: Victor Joseph (ADAM BEACH) and Thomas Builds-the-Fire (EVAN ADAMS) are two young American Indian men who've been on-again, off-again friends ever since a tragic event two decades earlier unexpectedly linked their lives together. I find these particularly useful for meeting agendas. Number outlines are also well supported in Notability. Tab indents new items and they even support formatted text within checklists. On any of the supported Notability platforms, just select some text and set the format to checklist. The support for outlines and checklist is excellent and something that is one of the main selling point over GoodNotes. Simple formatting is the least of what I like about text in Notability. I don’t want to fiddle, I just want to call attention to some text or create an informative divider in a section. Still, the simplicity of having just three favorites is exactly how I work with text formatting in my notes. The same features exist on the iPhone and the Mac but the favorites do not sync, which is a bit of let down. Notability also adds an option to create three favorite formats to quickly apply to text. Notability makes it a lot more natural to jump between the two modes and provides some additional formatting options that actually keep me typing longer.Īs with the ink, there are limited text formatting options in Notability but what’s there is easily accessible and covers most of what I want to do. While I love handwriting in GoodNotes it always felt a bit awkward to type text. I try to avoid using too many colors and almost always use the same line thickness. There are plenty of ink variations in Notability for my needs. But the difference is slight and in my use not important enough to ignore the other application differences. It feels a bit smoother and more realistic to me. The ink system in GoodNotes is subtly better than Notability. But, I’ve switched to Notability since a recent update that adds handwriting recognition on top of Notability’s other more refined features. The advantage of GoodNotes has always been its excellent handwriting recognition and export. I often need a combination of diagrams, text, and plain old doodles for meeting notes. GoodNotes is a terrific app for handwritten notes. ![]() The game has 40 level, 10 per episode - there is a bonus level on the map, but you need to have finished all other level in gold to get access.Īfter finishing a level you can replay it as often as you wish by clicking its flag on the map and then press the start button. The challenge level is just right, the visuals are clean and professional, the sense of accomplishment you'll get from paving your way to the home of the gods is strong! Roads of Rome II is great entertainment, and a perfect diversion for a rainy afternoon. Why not let the player set up a chain of events, even if it's limited to two or three actions ahead of time? You can only assign an action if a worker is free, otherwise you must wait for one to return to the camp. Our main complaint is the lack of a queuing system. The gameplay still feels like it has a ways to go before you have solid control over your workers. The diversity is both visual and structural, and it all looks and plays perfectly from beginning to end. ![]() One minute you're picking berries for food, the next eating seaweed and scaring away evil squid. Variety is what makes this game so enjoyable, as Whiterra wasn't content with leaving anything but the core elements the same throughout the levels. Keep their little hands busy and you won't have any trouble carving a path across the wilderness. Workers are your real focus: what they're doing, where they're at, what they could be doing next. Each level you must upgrade these buildings all over again, and deciding which order to do so will vary depending on your tasks as well as the layout of the map.Īnalysis: Roads of Rome II builds a more active simulation/resource management game by keeping your attention focused on what's happening on the screen as opposed to boring numbers. Early on, you'll gain access to better barracks that allow you to operate two and three workers at a time. Later levels also feature different ways of collecting resources, such as lumber laying on the ground for free or seaweed in place of berries.Īs you work through levels in Roads of Rome II, you'll unlock more buildings as well as upgrades for existing structures. No tree chopping or berry picking necessary. Buildings are key to quickly finishing stages in Roads of Rome II, as they provide resource bonuses that need only time to replenish themselves. Most levels have goals in addition to the usual "build a road to the exit" objective, and these vary from collecting unique items to clearing rock, creating certain structures, and exploring parts of the map. Most actions require a resource or two to complete, so managing your task order is just as important as managing your stockpiles. You'll need to stock up on food, provided by berry bushes and pig farms, wood, provided by chopping down trees and by sawmills, and later, gold and rock. Simply click on something you want done and, if a worker is free, he'll hop to it. Workers are needed to do everything from filling in holes and building bridges to picking up materials laying on the ground. Roads of Rome II is all about gathering and spending resources. But as it turns out, the gods have some favors of their own to ask, sending you on a long journey through over 40 levels of resource management challenge. Hopefully, this will gain their favor and they will grant you a cure. The plan is to carve your way through the lands and build a long road leading directly to their abode. The Caesar has been poisoned, and the only way to cure him is to make an appeal to the gods. Not only will you be building a path through several unique environments, you'll also bribe barbarians, build settlements, and chop hundreds of trees as you wind your way up to the mountaintops to the home of the gods themselves!
